APC Responds as Obasanjo, Kwankwaso, Obi, Duke ‘Strategize’ to Defeat Tinubu in 2027

The importance of a recent meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and influential political leaders, like as Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State, has been minimized by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The gathering, which took place last week at Obasanjo’s home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has stoked rumors of a possible coalition to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.

According to reports, the conversations centered on plans for the upcoming general election and Nigeria’s political destiny.

Although the specifics of the conversations are yet unknown, sources say they were a part of an attempt to present a unified front against the APC.

Kwankwaso was a prominent political figure in northern Nigeria and the New Nigeria People’s Party’s (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

“I was pleased to be in the company of my friend, His Excellency Donald Duke, and other associates to pay a courtesy call on former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta,” Kwakwanso said on social media to confirm the meeting.

“The conversation was defined by discussions on important national issues, such as Nigeria’s political and governance future,” he continued. We appreciate Baba’s kind welcome, encouragement, and hospitality.

APC National Publicity Director Bala Ibrahim responded to the news by calling the meeting irrelevant.

Ibrahim claimed in his remarks on Sunday that President Tinubu still has a significant advantage over the opposition in terms of political influence and significance.

“With all due respect, I think highly of Obasanjo,” he stated. As a former President, ex-Head of State, and an elder statesman, I don’t want to take issues with him. However, Tinubu is not their mate when it comes to Nigerian politics, especially modern politics.

In Nigerian politics today, Tinubu is far superior than them. Therefore, Tinubu is not in danger from the combo of Obasanjo, Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Donald Duke, a classmate of mine. In the most recent election, these individuals were denigrated.

This is not the first time Obasanjo will support a cause and then defeat that cause. Recall that he backed Jonathan, the former president of Goodluck, who was defeated by Buhari. In the most recent election, Obasanjo backed Peter Obi once more, but Tinubu defeated them handily.

Therefore, they won’t pose a danger to the APC government and can hold long meetings until the end of time. Who among Duke, Obasanjo, Obi, and Kwankwaso was not defeated? It’s another matter entirely if they are bringing angels. However, if these identical spent forces come together, there can be no positive result from their meeting.
