Despite publicly endorsing its candidates in the recently ended FCT area council election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is not a party member.
As a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Wike had aided and abetted the APC’s candidates in the election.
Five of the six local government chairmanship elections in the Federal Capital Territory were won by the APC.
According to reports, Wike made a public commitment prior to the election to back candidates that share President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Debate has persisted over his strong participation in the campaigns and the election’s final result, especially in relation to his party affiliation.
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka was asked in an interview on Arise News what the party would do if Wike were an APC member but employed by another political party, which is generally considered to be anti-party conduct.
Morka Refused to Conjecture
“Listen, you’re asking me to make assumptions, and I won’t do that. The PDP should answer that question. You want to ask the PDP about their party structure, member treatment, and how they deal with issues like these within the Peoples Democratic Party,” he stated.
“You know, I can’t speculate on something that belongs only to the party.”
On behalf of the ruling party, Morka acknowledged the minister’s contribution to the outcome of the FCT election but emphasized that Wike’s political standing remains unchanged.
