Mr Olisa Igbonwa, a kinsman of Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, who was rumored to have been buried alive, has resurfaced.
Igbonwa, an Alor native, was said to have taken the chieftaincy title of Ichie Ngene, a decision the community felt was beyond his authority, leading to a mock burial by the community’s elders.
Rumor has it that Igbonwa was buried in a forest after being carried around the community by the elders in a casket.

However, according to a press release issued by the Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday, Igbonwa came to the command to file a case against his community’s elders.
“The attention of Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to a trending video clip and online publication stating that one Chief Olisa Igbonwa was buried alive in Alor, Anambra State by the Elders of Okebunoye village, Alor, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State,” said DSP Toochukwu Ikenga in a press release.
“The elders met and decided to bury and mourn Mr Igbonwa alive for claiming the title of ‘Ichie Ngene’ in the community on his own.”
“Not only is the publication false, but it is also misleading. Olisa Igbonwa is alive and was never buried alive as claimed in the publication.”
Ikenga said Igbonwa came to the command to file a formal complaint, claiming that he was given a chieftaincy title by HRM Igwe Alor but was told by one Mr Uzoma Igbonwa and others that he had to renounce it within 30 days or face dire consequences.
