Air Traffic Controllers Suspend Protest Over Colleague’s Death

The Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) has called a halt to a two-day strike in response to the death of one of its members, Aniekan Effiong Inuk.
According to reports, air traffic controllers went on “flow control” in protest of Inuk’s death while on duty at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport on Monday.

The protest will take place from November 23 to 24, according to the statement, to express their dissatisfaction with the lack of decent working conditions.

In the last two years, nine members of the association have died on the job as a result of poor working conditions and insufficient staffing, according to the statement.

NACTA, on the other hand, has asked the aviation industry’s relevant authorities to ensure that some of its demands are met within two weeks.

However, NATCA President Abayomi Agoro told The PUNCH on Wednesday that the protest has been suspended as a result of intervention by relevant authorities.

Today, Agoro said, the association would meet with Musa Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

He stated that the meeting would take place in Abuja by 2 p.m., with the outcome determining the next course of action.

In other news, Reno Omokri, a former aide to former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has taken to social media to react to the arrest of Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation.

On Tuesday, November 23, Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrested FFK, as previously reported.

Omokri mocked Fani-Kayode for claiming that he was not arrested by the EFFC but was only invited in a post on his social media page on Wednesday.
