Late Super Permanent Secretary Ahmed Joda was described by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) as a true advocate for nature.

Joda recently passed away at the age of 91.

Joda was described as a rare gem, indefatigable elder statesman, vanguard, and true advocate for nature and sustainability in Africa by the Board of Trustees, National Executive Council, and Management of NCF in a press release announcing his death.

He was a long-serving member of the Board of Trustees, according to NCF.

According to a press release signed by Izoma Philip Asiodu, President, Board of Trustees, Joda was passionate about nature conservation and sustainability throughout his life.

“He used his vast experience and knowledge to help advance conservation efforts in Nigeria and throughout Africa.

We honor the life and memory of our dearly departed, a truly remarkable man who accomplished many great things.

“Among his many other accomplishments are his appointment as a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, where he served in the Federal Ministries of Information, Education, and Industries until 1978, and many others.

“However, as a tireless and passionate individual dedicated to nation building, even after formal retirement, he was appointed by various administrations, both Federal and State governments, in various capacities to make further contributions to Nigeria’s development.

“His commitment to the Nigerian Conservation Foundation opened many doors of partnership and funding for our projects, in addition to setting a personal example by practicing conservation in his own private agricultural enterprises.

“He was a Nigerian who was humble, straightforward, and liberal. His death has left a void in our hearts that will never be filled.

In 2019, the late Joda was quoted in the press as saying, “I love the environment, which is why I am a member of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation to protect our inheritance.”
