Despite having previously confessed to the murder of Salome Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Abuja, GOSPEL singer Timilehin Ajayi has entered a not guilty plea.
Ajayi, 32, was charged with culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence, and was arraigned at the Nasarawa State High Court on January 17.
Ajayi was sent to the Lafia Correctional Facility by the court pending additional hearings.
On January 12, while carrying Adaidu’s severed head in a plastic bag in New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, Ajayi was taken into custody.
According to reports, he killed the girl at his home and, apparently motivated by jealousy over allegations of infidelity, dismembered her body into almost fifty parts, according to police investigations.
Ajayi admitted to the crime during his parade at the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters, saying he killed Adaidu while she was there out of jealousy and suspicions of infidelity.
He acknowledged mutilating her body with a knife and machete and putting the pieces in plastic bags.

We don’t always have each other, so I killed her. It was not my intention. That day it happened, and it happened. She was cheating, so it’s not like I had the plan in mind.
However, Ajayi entered a not guilty plea at his court appearance on Monday, January 27, which infuriated the public and led to calls for justice from Adaidu’s family and advocacy groups.
