Abuja Estate Residents Panic Over Kidnap Invasion

A squad of highly armed kidnappers reportedly raided the Grow Homes estate in the Chikakore neighborhood of Kubwa, Abuja’s largest suburban town, on Monday morning and held residents hostage for more than an hour.

It is believed that the incident occurred between 12:00 AM and 1:30 AM.
One of the terrified inhabitants, who witnessed a man and a woman being kidnapped, claimed that by daylight, the lady had been discovered within the estate, having been freed by her captors for unknown reasons.

However, he was unable to determine how many people had been kidnapped.

“The incident occurred at 12 a.m. Those individuals were well-armed, and they outnumbered the local vigilante squad. The cops arrived around 1 a.m., and there was a 30-minute exchange of gunfire.

“We are requesting the authorities to fix this road so that security patrol cars may easily access it. We also beg the police and, of course, the FCT Administration to help us locate a station here for quick response,” the resident told Vanguard.

Meanwhile, the Edo State government has stated that Governor Monday Okpebholo and the State House of Assembly are united in taking a tough stance against the growing issue of kidnapping.

Fred Itua, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, stated this in a statement released last Thursday.

In a statement headlined “A STEP-BY-STEP BREAKDOWN OF NEW KIDNAPPING PROHIBITION LAW IN EDO STATE,” the administration stated that the Edo State House of Assembly enacted the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law, 2025.

The Edo State government’s decision to implement such extensive and harsh actions sends a clear message that it would no longer tolerate illegal acts that violate the sanctity of human freedom.

“As the state implements the terms of this law, emphasis will be given on training law enforcement officers, sensitizing the judiciary, and informing the public about the ramifications of the modifications. This multifaceted strategy is required to ensure the law’s effectiveness and to create a safer Edo State where citizens can live without fear,” Itua said.
