Elkenemy College of Islamic Theology’s management is attempting to conceal the truth.

Jubril Sadi Mato (Ramadan), an 11-year-old Pre-Junior Student at Elkenemy College of Islamic Theology Maiduguri, awoke in the early hours of January 16, 2022, had his ablution, and said his prayers, hoping for a better day. He went about his daily activities with vigor. However, by the time most students had gone to bed, Ramadan’s life had been nearly snuffed out by his Senior colleague.

Ramadan had been sent on an errand by a senior colleague from SS2 class, but he didn’t show up.

He came to pick him up and took him to a quiet place where he severely cut his neck with a razor blade, injuring most of his arteries, nerves, and trichea.

The perpetrator, whose identity has been withheld by the school administration, left the victim for dead, his body drenched in blood. After a few minutes of struggle, Jubril managed to get himself to the Principal’s Office before collapsing and passing out.

Jubril was rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where he was critically ill in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The perpetrator, who was said to have been indoctrinated with psychotropic substances, was apprehended and handed over to the Maiduguri Police Station for further investigation.

Late Justice Sadi Mato of the Federal High Court of Kano State was the victim’s son. Hajiya Aisha, his mother, later married and worked for the Yobe State Government as a Director ( name withheld). To the chagrin of the victim’s family, Aisha’s new husband (Jubril’s step father), who was summoned by the school administration shortly after the attack, has been discouraging the victim and his mother from reporting the assault. According to a family member who requested anonymity, the husband worked with the school’s principal as well as the college’s director, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, to keep the report from getting out, despite the fact that similar cases had been reoccurring in the college unabated.

“The school’s director was said to be a powerful man, so he promised to do everything he could to ensure that the case was closed,” he said.

“To be honest, the case of Jubril has effectively been decriminalized as a result of a collapse in prosecutions that has allowed many offenders to elude justice and reoffend in the knowledge that they are highly unlikely to be prosecuted.”

The fact that their acts of violence are normalized, accepted, or excused gives these individuals a sense of power and impunity, which encourages shameful predatory behavior. At all costs and in no uncertain terms, this support system must be eliminated.

“This is not the first instance of armed violence in the college; there have been several other instances of sexual abuse and armed violence, but the school administration has swept them under the rug.” This indicates that our failure to act has resulted in the creation of more victims. “This can have far-reaching and catastrophic consequences for any child’s physical and mental health.” Because it is responsible for a drop in academic performance and a high percentage of school dropouts, among other things, denying its victims the right to an education,” he said.

As a result, he has made an appeal to Borno Governor Babagana Zulum, the police, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Legal Aid Council, and other reputable organizations and individuals to seek redress for Ramadan, whose condition at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital remains critical.

In a similar vein, on Monday, Jan. 17, a journalist from a local newspaper in Maiduguri approached the Director of the College, Muhammed Sani Idris, to inquire about the incident, but his efforts were futile.

“When I entered the Director’s office, I was asked to put down my smartphone, which I did.” Following my introduction, I inquired about the school’s position on the incident.

“He asked for my help in putting a stop to the story, pointing out that such a story would only cause public panic and had my name given to the appropriate authorities.” So, what benefit does this story provide you? The school and your medium share our goals (providing public services), so I’d prefer if you forgot about this story while we moved on, but if you believe it’s necessary to report this issue, go ahead and do it, the director told the Journalist.

Some students who spoke out about the situation said they were told by the administration that Jubril attempted suicide because he despised being a boarder.

“They told us that he tried to kill himself with a razor blade by stabbing himself,” one student who requested anonymity said. However, we later discovered that he was stabbed by one of our seniors.

“We don’t know how he’s doing right now.” “I hope he isn’t dead,” the student expressed his hope.

“On the same day, a delegation from the Borno State Ministry of Education visited the college when the director departed for Damaturu, leaving his principals behind,” another member of the college’s senior staff said. “The principals were not on sit,” they were told.

The suspect committed the act while under the influence of a drug that was being secretly sold to students by a senior Managing officer of the Junior Secondary School Section, according to the sources.

According to him, the college administration covered up numerous cases of misconduct committed by students and some staff members without the knowledge of the parents, despite the fact that the Parents and Teachers Association had been disbanded for years following a mass protest against the college administration’s increase and change of school uniforms. End.
