The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, Olusola Odumosu, has deployed 5,000 personnel to beef up security in the FCT before and during the Sallah celebration.
This was contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Idoko Samuel, on Monday.
Odumosu noted that the deployment would cover all the nooks and crannies of the six area councils as well as the city centre, especially sensitive locations, soft targets, black spots and flash points that are prone to criminal activities.
He hinted that the command has deployed all the special forces, such as the Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Intelligence, Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Crack Squad (Operation Adaka-su), Intelligence and Agro Rangers, to ensure the maintenance of law and order.
Odumosu warned miscreants, vandals, and other mischief makers to keep off critical national assets and infrastructure, as the corps will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law on anyone caught or found culpable.
The FCT helmsman also charged personnel to be committed, vigilant, responsive, and resolute in their avowed commitment to ensuring a crime-free environment and a hitch-free celebration devoid of any security breaches or threats.
“The corps is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property of residents and the protection of critical national assets in the FCT.
“You are to ensure 24-hour protection of all these infrastructures and the holidaymakers in the city.
“There is no room for carelessness or overzealousness while carrying out your duties, and the operational order must be followed to ensure professionalism on your part,” he said.
He advised fun seekers to do everything in moderation and not take laws into their own hands in the name of the Sallah celebration.
The commandant assured residents of the FCT that the command would join forces with other security agencies to provide security at prayer grounds, recreational centres, markets, shopping malls, motor parks and other flashpoints during the holiday season.
