Chinaza Phillip, a well-known kidnapper from Abuja, was taken into custody by the Nigerian Police Force during a cross-state operation.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command verified Phillip’s apprehension.

The state’s police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that officers from the Kaduna State Police Command reportedly took Phillip into custody on Thursday, January 18.

The suspect has now been turned over to the FCT Police Command, according to Adeh, and is being held by police.

But information about the operation and Phillip’s apprehension is still surfacing, and the force says it will release “more details soon.”

Concern over the nation’s rising kidnapping rate is on the rise, especially in the Abuja region, where a number of high-profile cases in recent months have brought attention to the issue. Phillip’s arrest coincides with this growing concern.

Six sisters, ranging in age from early adolescence to twenty-three, and their father, Mansoor Al-Kadriyar, were recently kidnapped in the Bwari neighborhood of Abuja. Their father was eventually set free to pay the ransom.

Last Friday, his daughter Nabeeha, 21, who was a final-year university student, was killed as a warning that the enormous ransom needed to be paid.
