FG intends to tackle food inflation with enormous production

Plans are in place to reduce food inflation nationwide, according to Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

When Umar Namadi, the governor of Jigawa State, paid him a courtesy call in Abuja on Friday, Kyari made this statement.

According to him, achieving food security and reducing food inflation were among the ministry’s objectives.

“We also plan to produce in large quantities to reduce food inflation, as food price inflation is currently the main cause of inflation,” he stated.

Additionally, Kyari insisted that President Bola Tinubu’s food security strategy is moving forward as planned.

He declared that in order to benefit Nigerians, food production programs would continue in 2024.

“The ministry is focused on using technology and mechanization to achieve this goal of ramping up massive production of staple crops,” he stated.

We are prepared to carry out our plans in accordance with his goals for the agriculture industry.

“We are committed to spearheading the agricultural revolution, augmenting efficiency, and guaranteeing that our farmers receive the essential assistance to prosper.”

According to Kyari, the ministry would start its scheduled initiatives and programs and make sure they were sustainable in order to achieve large-scale production.

“We have a plan in place to assure the sustainability of our programs and achieve significant food production in 2024.

According to the President’s strategy for food security, “this is so that food will be available and Nigeria will be food secured,” he stated.

He asked those involved in the agriculture industry to help the Ministry get over obstacles and make sure the intervention is successful.

“We are committed to making the Dry/Wet Season Farming intervention a success, and the second phase is expected to begin this month,” he stated.

The minister added that Jigawa and other states’ wheat production has the full backing of the government.

According to him, the governor’s visit demonstrates the Federal Government’s and the State’s close cooperation in promoting agricultural growth and food security in Nigeria.

Namadi had already stated that the cultivation of wheat on 36,000, 700, and 87 hectares offered great optimism for the production of wheat on its own.

“The official record is that as of today, we have farmed 36,000, 700, 87 hectares of wheat.

“This is an additional 5,000 hectares, bringing our total wheat farm in Jigawa to approximately 50,000 hectares,” he stated.

We have the area and resources to boost wheat farming, he told the minister, and Jigawa will continue to play a significant role in the current NAGS-AP program’s wheat dry season farming. Strong programs that will help us with dry season farming in the State have been implemented.

We are now upgrading our farmers registry so that it will appropriately guide us when the rice season begins. In order to make sure that our farming during this dry season is successful, we will work with you,” Namadi declared.
