Six traders lost their lives on Friday when their convoy of vehicles encountered bandits in Katsina State’s Danmusa Local Government Area.
The traders were going to Yantumaki, where there is a weekly market, from Maidabino village.
Danmusa Local Government Area includes the two villages.
Locals disclosed that due to the security measures in place in the council, traders always travel in convoys.
Additional information revealed that the traders’ convoy encountered the bandits just prior to Yantumaki.
The locals also said that the bandits fired at the cars after emerging out of nowhere from a forest.
A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, stated: “The bandits emerged from a forest and took over the highway early in the morning while the traders were near Yantumaki.”The group of vehicles in convoy was being fired upon by the bandits. Six traders had already lost their lives when the police and military arrived on the scene as security personnel.
It is unknown at this time if any of the traders were kidnapped by the bandits.
ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, acknowledged the occurrence when he was reached, but he did not yet have all the information.
He stated, “The incident happened, but I don’t have details yet. You can call me back later for details.” stated that the state is among the impacted northern states and has a history of attacks by armed individuals and by protesting citizens.
In the same Danmusa LGA in October 2023, five people lost their lives and at least twelve others were injured. The attack also resulted in the kidnapping of five residents.
A terrorist attack on the Zakka community in Safana Local Government Area was successfully prevented in December 2023 by state governor Dikko Radda and a united security squad.
