The Federal Government intends to create 750,000 jobs through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative by 2027, according to Michael Oluwagbemi, the initiative’s CEO and project director.
In the recent Abuja stakeholder and investor meeting organized by PCNGi, he disclosed this.
He added that a gas-powered economy would be developed by the federal government.
Oluwagbemi, who was speaking at the forum with the theme “Nigeria’s CNG Revolution: Harnessing Opportunities for a Sustainable Future,” mentioned that the government planned to build 40,000 auto gas conversion workshops and create 750,000 jobs as of 2027.
The CNG effort, according to him, is the government’s “ambitious plan to put one million gas-powered vehicles on the road by 2027, at an average annual rate of 250,000 vehicle conversions per year.”
The Project Director pointed out that the initiative’s strategic vision is to bring about a significant reduction in transportation costs for Nigerians, thereby improving their standard of living through the use of a cleaner and safer fuel. This is because of the advantages of CNG as a cheaper fuel. Given these factors.
Our strategic goals are completely evident in all of these: how can we lower the average person’s cost of transportation? What are the ways to make Nigerian gas profitable for him/her? In what way can we guarantee that Nigeria benefits economically from natural gas?

In addition to encouraging investment on the supply side, Oluwagbemi stated, “We’re not just focusing on conversion centers but also taking an end-to-end approach.”
To assure sufficient supply on the upstream side, he specifically noted partnerships with the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria and its partners.
According to him, PCNGi was actively integrating six million commercial cars into the CNG ecosystem by interacting with the network of organized commercial transport providers.
Another PCNGi member, Mr. Toyin Subair, emphasized Nigeria’s financial benefits from using CNG as a substitute fuel.
He reiterated that the shift was intended to benefit the economy and well-being of all Nigerians.
One advantage of this endeavor is that it eliminates the need for subsidies or the purchase of foreign fuel. We, the people of Nigeria, own the six million commercial cars that will be converted, and we have our gas here. The cost of transportation for the typical Nigerian will be reduced if we seize this business opportunity, claimed Subair.
