The 26 members of the House of Assembly for the Rivers State have retracted their notice of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This was mentioned in the withdrawal notification that was read out on the house floor on Wednesday.
The rationale behind the move, they claimed, was respect for President Bola Tinubu, who on Monday called a meeting for reconciliation between the parties at odds.
On Wednesday morning, the verdict was read aloud to the 26 MPs who supported former governor Nyesom Wike in the House of Assembly Complex.
A peace agreement between Fubara and Wike, his predecessor, was mediated by President Tinubu on Monday.
According to reports, Wike, who serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and the governor are engaged in a power struggle that is the cause of the tension in the state.
