Asserting that President Bola Tinubu intervened in the dispute between Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo state, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, saved the state from totalitarianism is lawyer Benson Enikuomehhin.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s allies, federal and state legislators from Ondo, and other stakeholders convened at the State House in Abuja over the weekend in an attempt by Tinubu to mediate the month-long dispute between the governor and his deputy.
On Monday, Enikoumehhin said that he supported the president’s efforts to mediate the dispute in an interview with ARISE NEWS.

He stated, “A lot of people, including those in my party, have said that his deputy should act in that capacity as intended and encouraged by the constitution because his incapacity to perform is impeding his performance in the state.”
“It can be understood that the president is urging the deputy governor to refrain from changing the current political structure by getting involved in this matter.”
Furthermore underlining that the state would have been in disarray had the governor been removed, was the attorney. However, recognizing that the president had made the right choice. The state ought to have handled the situation as a private and secret matter, he stated.
According to him, the 2024 elections are the driving force behind Ondo State’s current leadership dilemma. Opposition to the deputy governor’s assumption of authority comes from political gladiators’ interests.
