Three internally displaced people (IDPs) in Benue State are said to have been slain by some as-yet-unidentified gunmen.
According to reports provided to journalists, the people were approached by a group of alleged armed men while they were fishing in the state’s Gwer West Local Government Area.
According to Ibaah Terna Jacob, the chairman of the Agagbe IDP camp in Gwer West LGA, the civilians were killed on Monday, as he confirmed the incidence to Daily Trust.
He named the victims as Iorhemba Cletus, Akaa Clifford, and Igbahemba Abua.
The three had gone fishing in the Gbange/Tongov council district of Gwer West, according to Jacob, and they had not returned by nightfall.
An eyewitness told them during their search that they were being pursued by armed intruders who started shooting at them, he claimed.
The camp manager also stated that the three people’s remains were buried right away after an extensive search for them turned up nothing by Tuesday morning.
As of the time of reporting, the incidence has not yet been verified by the state headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force.
