Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has instructed the Bureau of Local Government Pensions to start paying the N1 billion gratuity that the government has issued to both state and local government pensioners right now.

According to the media assistant of the agency, Azeezat Sadiku, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, Mrs. Olubukola Adeniregun, said this on Tuesday while dealing with reporters in her office at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Adeniregun claimed that in order to get the state to where it is today, the administration gave pensioners who had made significant contributions throughout their working years gratuity payments as a priority.

“You will remember that Prince Dapo Abiodun increased the quarterly disbursement of their gratuity from N600 million to N1 billion during the interactive session with pensioners at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto,” she added. He has now demonstrated that a leader can make a commitment and keep it, which is an uncommon ability.

Adeniregun added that the governor had given final approval for the prompt payment of monthly pensions to begin before the salary of serving workers, and that both the quarterly disbursement of gratuity and the payment of monthly pensions had been consistent.

She said that as part of the ongoing palliative efforts implemented by the state government, older folks were not ignored because they were receiving their N10,000 palliative payment each month to lessen the consequences of subsidy elimination.

She stated that the initial payment is likely to be made over the course of three consecutive months.

The governor’s decision to increase the quarterly disbursement of retiree gratuity from N600 million to N1 billion was praised by the chairman of the Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria, Benedict Ademoye, his counterpart for the Association of Retired Primary School Teachers, Mr. Zaacheous Adekoya, and the head of the Retired Primary School Teachers Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Caroline Oguntola.

They urged the governor to continue his good work in improving conditions for senior citizens, noting that the regular distribution of monthly pensions is also deserving of praise.
