Yusuf Umar Datti, a candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam Federal Constituency, was not elected, according to the National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kano State.
Yusuf’s election was thrown out by the tribunal under the direction of Justice Flora Ngozi Azingbe because he failed to resign from his position as a lecturer at Bayero University in Kano within 30 days of the election.
Datti was unable to persuade the tribunal that he is a member of the NNPP, according to Justice Azingbe’s ruling.
As a result of this ruling, the tribunal recognized All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso as the legitimate election victor.
In Kano State, Kwankwaso served as a commissioner under the previous governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
