Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has pledged to tear down any residences built in the nation’s capital unlawfully, regardless of whose property will be impacted.
The warning was given by Wike on Monday at a news conference held at the FCT Minister’s office in Garki, Abuja, where he took his oath of office alongside 44 other recently appointed Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The FCT Minister stated that all homes constructed to obstruct the Abuja Masterplan and erected on green spaces will be destroyed, regardless of who owned them or not.
“It’s unfortunate that so many people are misrepresenting the Abuja Masterplan. It will fall down if you are aware that you have built in an improper location.
“Your home must go down, be you a Minister of somewhere, be you an ambassador, if you know you have developed where you were not authorised to develop. Sorry, but those who occupied our parks and other green spaces to construct new structures must return. “You must hate yourself if you dislike green,” stated Wike.
Say the truth, you don’t like those who step on toes, Wike remarked in response to inquiries about whether his threatening demolition will be used as a form of vengeance against his adversaries. I’ll step on some toes.
“I’ll step on the powerful and magnificent. “If you are doing what is wrong, I will do what I am obliged to do,” he said, adding that his responsibility was to restore the FCT to its previous state as opposed to using it as a tool to persecute specific individuals.
