In Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Mr. Olugbenga Anthony, the chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, together with 26 other OGIRS employees, were sworn in as Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
According to Anthony, who recently spoke at the induction ceremony, the choice to join the FRSC was motivated by the desire to increase life safety and boost revenue production in the state, according to a statement released on Sunday.
“The decision to join is mostly motivated by concern for life safety. We at OGIRS are in charge of collecting road taxes, which is essential to the state’s ability to generate money. We don’t just focus on making money; we also want to work with other government agencies to prevent traffic fatalities.
“It is a way of going beyond the statutory right to collect road taxes as a revenue collecting agency, but also as an arm of government that manages and ensures the safety of taxpayers on the road,” the guy stated.
He said that a single vehicle owner’s passing would result in a revenue loss because “only the living can register and renew vehicle particulars and carry out other tax transactions.”
He thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing the agency with an enabling atmosphere so it could play its part in the state’s growth and pledged that members of the unit would do their utmost to uphold the oath of allegiance.
In his keynote speech, Anthony Uga, the FRSC’s Ogun State Sector Commander, said: “Having been screened and trained on modalities involved in attending to emergencies on the road to save lives, your induction is a call to serve, complement, and collaborate with FRSC officials.”
