He expressed his belief that state legislative institutions would be strengthened by autonomy, which would ultimately lead to sound government.
“Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the journey has been a long one; the efforts have been worthwhile, and we are glad to report that, with the support of relevant stakeholders and partners and others that are not mentioned here, we have effectively amended the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution to provide not only for financial autonomy for the state legislature but also for its implementation adequately,” said Suleiman. Without a doubt, this will support state legislative institutions and ultimately guarantee efficient national governance.
Dr. Chris Pycroft, the Development Director at the British High Commission, said in his message of goodwill that the state’s executive branch must be held responsible for ensuring that citizens have access to effective governance.
“State legislators are an essential link between the state and its citizens,” he declared. They are essential in providing the populace with good governance. By demanding accountability from the executive, they must continue to effectively fulfil their roles.
