Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s immediate dismissal from his position as INEC chairman has been demanded by the Labour Party (LP).
Additionally, the party demanded the dismissal of the INEC Federal Commissioner in charge of voter education. Mr. Festus Okoye.
The Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation accused the two people in a statement issued on Thursday of leading the commission in the savagery of the Nigerian presidential election of 2023.
Furthermore, the statement claimed that INEC squandered the resources provided to it by the national government and international organisations for the conduct of the country’s general elections in 2023.
In addition, the Labour Party campaign organisation claimed INEC spent billions of tax payer dollars under the guise of implementing the BVAS and other technological advancements for the 2023 elections but ultimately manipulated the results manually to impose their preferred presidential candidate on Nigerians.
Because of this, it demanded Yakubu and Okoye be fired right away and put on trial for the “crimes” they had committed.
According to the statement, “The Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation has unequivocally demanded Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, INEC Chairman, and Festus Okoye, INEC Federal Commissioner in charge of voter education, be immediately removed from their positions and prosecuted following the final reports of the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room and the International Community regarding the desecration of the presidential election of February 25, 2023.

“They consequently demanded a forensic financial investigation of the billions of naira donated and disbursed by the government to INEC, as well as a sanction against these corrupt officials for wasting their money and illegally tampering with the presidential election to promote their preferred candidate.
“They came to this conclusion because INEC spent billions of tax payer dollars on the pretence of deploying the BVAS and other technological innovations needed for electronic storage and transmission of election results, but purposefully disregarded these noble inventions during the election in order to manipulate the election, and is dubiously turning around to try to suggest that manual collation of results may suffice, which will render all our technological advancements useless,” said one so
They argued that since Mahmood and Okoye committed more serious crimes, they should suffer worse punishment if Adamawa REC can be prosecuted.
