The Economic Community of West African States has elected President Bola Tinubu as its chairman, and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture has congratulated him on the decision.
This information was provided by Mr. Dele Oye, President of NACCIMA, in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.
ECOWAS’s 63rd Ordinary Session in Guinea Bissau saw Tinubu elected as its Chairman.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), according to Oye, is positioned its member states for a successful integration of the ECOWAS area.
Nigeria, the continent’s largest economy, was expected to play a key role in both the area and the continent as a whole, according to him.
However, the president of NACCIMA emphasized the importance of addressing some of the difficulties that intra-West African trade faces.
He mentioned that there were still a number of barriers impeding the free flow of goods and services within the area, including onerous regulations, expensive transportation, and corruption.
According to Oye, these problems had restricted regional trade growth, which had hampered West Africans’ ability to prosper economically.
More than at any other time in its history, Nigeria has high expectations from its African counterparts.
“We are aware of your qualifications as an experienced politician and savvy administrator with a commendable history of leadership and governance.
“We have every faith that you will use your breadth of knowledge and skills to address the issues the region is currently facing.

We are hopeful that you will be able to address these problems head-on and put regulations into place that will make doing business in the region easier, he added.
He also pledged his support and cooperation with the Nigerian president’s initiatives to advance trade, investment, and economic development in West Africa.
