On Tuesday, the Enugu State Police Command displayed 15 individuals who had been detained between May and June 2023 for a variety of criminal acts in various sections of the state.

The accused were detained for offences that included fraud, conspiracy, kidnapping, murder, rape, armed robbery, and all of the above.

During the parade, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesman, praised law-abiding citizens for providing the police with crucial information that resulted in the arrests.

According to Ndukwe, “These operational successes reported by the command are in support of the policing methods developed to rein in the actions of criminal elements in the state.

Additionally, seven kidnapped victims were freed as a result of these arrests.

In separate operations conducted by police officers with assistance from other security agencies and law-abiding individuals, we found seven firearms, two vehicles, a motorbike, a dagger, N701,000 in cash, and other incriminating items.

He said that on June 26 at around 2:00 a.m., anti-cultism squad agents, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on a hotel (name withheld) along the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Motorway and detained Ali Jubril, 25.

Since the suspect was found with N701,000 in cash that he was unable to account for and one knife, it is reasonable to assume that he is a member of a kidnapping group.

He stated that the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Command was doing more covert inquiry into the situation.

In a same vein, he pointed out that on June 25 at 1 pm, police officers working in the Igbo-Eze North Division, with the active help of the Forest Guard and Neighbourhood Watch Group, freed four abducted victims.

He claims that after a fierce battle with the abductors in a woodland near the Aishi-Ette hamlet in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, they were freed.

A mother and her kid were saved on June 25 at 6 p.m. by police officers from the Adani Police Division working in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army, Forest Guards, and Neighbourhood Watch Group.

The pair is allegedly kidnapped near Ngene-Ukwu along the Adani-Opanda Road. The united security team continues to search for the alleged kidnappers.

Additionally, on June 18, police officers assigned to the Abakaliki Road Division disrupted a one-chance armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, and fraud gang and detained some suspects. These and other operational successes were noted, the official added.

When the investigations into the various incidents were finished, according to Ndukwe, the suspects would be brought before a judge and charged appropriately.

In order to do this, Mr. Ahmed Ammani, the state’s commissioner of police, congratulated police officers and everyone who helped make these operational successes possible.

The commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to upholding the highest levels of public security and safety in the state while continuing to protect the lives and property of its constituents.
