Five members of the National Youth Service Corps from the 2022 Batch B stream 2 will receive different punishments, and one will have to repeat the state’s service year, according to Mr. Usman Yakubu-Yaro, the state coordinator for Sokoto.
On Thursday in Sokoto, when corps members were picking up their Certificates of National Service, Yakubu-Yaro revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria.
The affected corps members, he claimed, had received sanctions for a number of infractions, including absences during their service year.
The scheme, he said, had no tolerance for truancy and would not think twice about punishing any disobedient corps member.
He claims that the sanctioned corps members’ service years will be extended by at least three weeks or one month due to a variety of misconducts.
The Coordinator gave advice to those who had finished their service year to make good use of the skills they had learned through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development scheme as well as to serve as good ambassadors for the country as a whole.
He further urged them to participate in the post-camp training in order to develop their skills as entrepreneurs.
Yakubu-Yaro added that the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar meritorious awards would be given to two corps members who stood out.
The Sultanate Council and the Sokoto state government, however, were praised by the speaker for their unwavering support of the NYSC Secretariat and corps members.
