Dr. Alex Otti, the newly elected governor of Abia, ran for office on the Labor Party, LP’s platform, and a Federal High Court denied declaring his candidacy invalid.
The Kano LP candidates who ran in the 2023 general election, however, claimed that the court had invalidated their election.
Ibrahim Haruna-Ibrahim has submitted a petition seeking the court to nullify and annul the certificates of return given to all LP candidates who had been proclaimed winners in Kano and the 35 states of the Federation, including the FCT, Abuja.
Despite the conflicting responses to the ruling, Justice Nasir-Yunusa ruled that the Abia candidates who ran in the recently held general elections were not parties to the lawsuit.
According to Nasir-Yunusa, the court merely ordered the Labour Party’s primary election in Kano State to be invalid. “This court lacks jurisdiction to make an order for the issuance of certificate of return,” he stated.
They are free to seek justice in the proper judicial division, he said.
