10th Assembly: Group Drums Support For Kalu As Deputy Speaker

The Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitisation (CYMS) has stated that the Member of the House of Representatives who represents the Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State is the ideal candidate to hold the position of Deputy Speaker.

This was stated in a statement that was released on Friday in Abuja by the Director General of CYMS, Mr. Obinna Nwaka.

Nwaka mentioned that it was necessary to rally support for Kalu because of the competition among the members of the lower chamber of the National Assembly for leadership positions in the 10th Assembly.

He referred to his nomination and endorsement by the party as a positive turn of events and expressed gratitude to the President-Elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, and his Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, for their support. He also thanked the party.

He emphasized that the Nigerian people would have an enjoyable experience with a transparent legislative process with Kalu serving as the Deputy Speaker in the 10th Assembly.

“There will also be swift intervention to national issues and a good synergy between the Executive arm of government and the Senate,” he said. “These are two things that will happen.”

Nwaka pleaded with the other lawmakers who represent the Southern region of the country to back Kalu’s nomination so that there would be equity and fairness.

In addition to this, he stated that Imo had previously been home to a Deputy Speaker when the PDP was in power, and that electing an Abia lawmaker to the position of Deputy Speaker for the 10th National Assembly would not be a terrible idea.

Nwaka, who was a member of the Presidential Campaign Council for the APC during the general elections in 2023, made a plea to members-elect from all parties to unite behind Kalu and ensure that he was elected as the Deputy Speaker. Nwaka served in this capacity during the APC’s campaign.

He stated that Kalu would be of assistance to the Federal Government, particularly the administration led by Tinubu and Shettima, in their efforts to stabilize the National Assembly.

“He will also help tackle the restiveness, unrest, and tension in the South East which requires political solution,” he said. “He will also help tackle the situation in the South East.”

The CYMS is a group that was established by the federal government with the goal of encouraging youth inclusion in governance, opportunities for youth empowerment, and active participation in every decision making process that is relevant to the young people of the country.

In addition to serving as a platform for the monitoring, mobilization, and sensitization of young people, CYMS provides assistance to the federal government in the areas of sensitization as well as the promotion of its policies and programs.
