Prior to May 29, the Incorporated Trustees of Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative have demanded an investigation and subsequent prosecution of President-elect Bola Tinubu.
This was stated in a “Affidavit of Urgency” in support of an ex parte motion filed with the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In its main case, the group asked the court for permission to apply for an order compelling the Inspector General of Police to investigate Tinubu’s alleged perjury regarding his alleged Guinean citizenship and to order his prosecution if found guilty.
In the motion ex parte bearing the number FHC/ABJ/CS/669/2023 and filed on May 16, 2023, ASRADI asserted that the President-elect lied under oath when he refused to provide information regarding his Guinean citizenship on Form EC9, which he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission in order to qualify for the 2023 presidential election.
The group stated that it sought court intervention because its request to the police to investigate the matter had yielded no positive results.
As evidence, the group submitted a letter written by its executive director, Adeolu Oyinlola, to the IG on May 8.
