The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not permitted to suspend or expel Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State or members of the PDP State Executive Committee in the State due to alleged anti-party activities, according to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to Justice Inyang Ekwo’s ruling, Wike and other PDP members had legitimate concerns, and suspending or expelling them would violate their right to freedom of association.

Therefore, the judge declared that it was within the court’s authority to grant redress to individuals whose well-established acts would constitute a violation of their rights.

The judge ruled that political party members cannot be arbitrarily suspended if party rules have not been followed.

In the general elections of 2023, Governor Wike and the other four PDP governors, collectively referred to as the G5, had openly campaigned against Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.
