In Buni Gari village, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, suspected Boko Haram terrorists are believed to have killed at least ten people.
The state governor, Mr. Mai Mala Buni, was born and raised in Buni Gari.
One of the locals who spoke out following the attack claimed that the alleged terrorists stormed the town in order to kidnap a local named Mallam Shati Gawi, who was later killed.
Another resident stated, “I want to let you know that we lost more than ten people here because we saw the security personnel, including soldiers and policemen, heading to the area for assistance. I spoke with one of my friends there, and he confirmed to me that there have been suspected Boko Haram killings of about 15 people.
Although the attack was confirmed, only nine people died, according to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Dungus Abdulkareem.
The statement claims that the youths were ambushed and killed while searching for Mallam Shati Gawi in the bush after he had been kidnapped and killed by the alleged terrorists.
He continued by saying that the bodies of the deceased had been released to their families by the town’s Divisional Police Officer (DPO), DSP Idriss Haruna, after he had visited the scene.
Haruna also pleaded with the Buni Gari residents to assist the police by providing accurate information in the ongoing battle against Boko Haram, kidnapping, and cattle rustling in the region.
According to the PPRO, accurate and trustworthy information on the movements of suspected criminals in society will aid in the elimination of those who are terrorising local residents who are innocent.
