The arrest of 10 suspected political thugs who were terrorizing various areas of the state has been confirmed by the Sokoto State Police Command.
Weapons, charms, and drugs were found on the suspects, according to the state police public relations officer, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
Abubakar claimed that the development was in accordance with Mohammed Gumel, the state’s commissioner of police, who had instructed Area Commanders and DPOs to conduct raids on places where thugs are known to hide out, particularly at campaign offices, party offices, and the homes of some politicians, in order to make sure that they have no place to operate in the state.

The police, working with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, “have escalated top crime prevention actions and have so far arrested a syndicate of 10 political thugs at various locations throughout the state with dangerous weapons, various charms, and drugs,” according to the statement.
“The first syndicate of the thugs was arrested at Kangiwa square as a result of the recent stop and search operations conducted by police immediately after the public announcement issued by the command, while others were arrested at Hubbare Area. All of the suspects have been charged and are being held on remand in a Sokoto correctional facility as of the time this report was filed.

Abubakar said Gumel had ordered all DPOs to search the locations of all campaign offices, party offices, and identified residences of politicians with a habit of incubating thugs in the state. He noted that the exercise was a continuous activity.
