Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, a member of the House of Representatives who represents Oluyole Federal Constituency, asserted that fifth columnists are using the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, against the government’s All Progressives Congress (APC).

The legislator’s outburst occurred in the midst of a shortage of new naira notes that has Nigerians whining about their inability to access money.

In a statement on Saturday, the female lawmaker, who chairs the house committee on diaspora, said it was clear that the CBN had turned into a tool in the hands of the opposition and called the hardship unfortunate and unjustifiable.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) fifth columnists who are orchestrating this hardship for political gain in the upcoming elections in February 2023, according to the statement, have turned CBN into a tool for the opposition.

“The people of Nigeria have experienced immense hardship as a result of the shortage of available cash in the Nigerian economy, which is caused by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) policy and lack of supply of the new naira notes.”

She declared that it was unacceptable for the country to be suffering at this time and demanded that the governor of the Central Bank take responsibility for the hardships that Nigerians are experiencing.

Although it was a good initiative, she claimed that the confusion was caused by a lack of planning and foresight.

The lawmaker bemoaned the ongoing fuel shortage, which she blamed on illegal activity, and questioned how the country ended up in such a mess just weeks before elections.

Akande-Sadipe declared that such behavior is unacceptable: “Anyone with the intent to sabotage for political gains does not have the interest of the nation at heart.”
