On Saturday, Nigerian security officers deployed to Eagle Square in Abuja for the current All Progressives Congress, APC, National Convention rebuffed efforts by hoodlums to disrupt the electoral process.
The hoodlums who were observed bringing sticks to the conference site were stopped by police officers and other security services.
Some of the hoodlums who pushed their way into the location where the conference is presently taking place were detained and transferred to Force Headquarters, according to sources.
As police used tear gas to disperse the hoodlums, several journalists were forced to flee the area.
DSP Josephine Adeh, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, verified the occurrence in a discussion with DAILY POST, and said normality was quickly restored.
The PPRO responded to the officers’ deployment of teargas by saying that the teargas was required to calm the scene and prevent any assaults on the delegates who had traveled from all across the nation.
“Dispersal maneuvers are important at such an event with a certain significant level of crowd,” she said, “or else even the delegates would not have a method and a place to fulfill their duties.”
“All I can tell is that there is intense monitoring in place, and the police have been gathering any evidence that may be used to hurt individuals.”
