A horrific car accident on the Calabar highway has claimed the lives of up to 25 troops.

The event occurred on Friday evening.

Four others are in a life-threatening situation.

According to eyewitnesses, five female troops were injured in various ways.

Many of them were crushed in the head.

They were sent to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Calabar right away.

They left their 13 Brigade headquarters in Calabar at 4 p.m. to proceed to the Brigadier Ally Army Cantonment in Ogoja, northern Cross River State, according to the findings.

According to a source, the truck driver couldn’t notice a recently installed speed breaker because he was speeding.

“When he slapped on the brakes, the car swerved off and collided with a Ferrari parked at a car show.”

“The sienna was a saving grace; else, the bus would have wound up inside the gutter that drains water into the Beebosco water channel, which would have been a big disaster,” an auto dealer, Emmanuel Ekpeta, told media.

Aside from the limited visibility, the heavy drain made the paved road slippery, according to Ekpeta.

“The troops that collided with the gutter were the most severely injured, with cracked skulls and foreheads.

“They were dragged out of the sewer unconscious and bathed in blood,” stated an eyewitness.

John Elo, the owner of the Vienna bus, claimed he retained the vehicle for sale and requested that the military assist in replacing the bus.

Dr. Oyi, the chief of the emergency section at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital where the wounded troops were taken, verified that 25 soldiers were brought to their facility.

Two were later transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, he added.

“It was an accident,” army Captain H. I. Audu remarked, “and our main worry today is how to preserve the lives of our men.”
