Youths from the Middle Belt region of the country, united under the banner of the Middle Belt Youths Forum (MBYF), said on Saturday that the Federal High Court’s judgment in Umuahia, which nullified Section 84 (12) of the newly amended Electoral Act, has made the general elections in 2023 more open and participatory for Nigerians.

The group’s head, simply known as Meliga, praised the ruling as a “good development” as all political parties begin their preparations for the general elections in 2023.

“The Friday judgment is sound and renowned,” it said. This is a positive development.

“With the announcement, the election process has been widened to include those people who were previously disenfranchised by the contentious segment.”

“We hope and believe that when political parties begin their preparations, particularly as they have primaries ahead of the general elections, more competent Nigerians will be allowed to participate, regardless of their present jobs in government.” “Democracy has triumphed.”
