As the battle for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s approaches a climax, an opinion poll conducted among party loyalists across the country has tipped Senator George Akume as the party’s top candidate once again.

Remember that the Africa Polling Institute released a similar report on February 22 naming the Minister for Special Duties as the best-suited candidate for the APC’s most coveted seat.

The former Governor of Benue State has again topped the log ahead of other formidable opponents in a new exercise conducted by DBI Analytics Consulting to ascertain citizens’ awareness of ongoing socio-political happenings in the country, part of which includes the upcoming APC Convention.

The firm said the “polling methodology adopted was a survey and administered between Monday 14th and Thursday 17th March, 2022,” according to a press release signed by Segun Olajonrin, Associate Director, DBI Analytics in Abuja.

“A random national sample of people was interviewed over the phone.” A total of 1,011 citizens were chosen at random from Nigerians aged 18 and up who own a phone, and citizens from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were interviewed.

“The sample has a 5% margin of error and a 95% confidence interval, which is statistically significant.” According to the poll results, 51% of respondents are aware of the APC’s upcoming National Convention, while 41% are unaware and 8% are simply uninterested in participating in the poll.

“In terms of familiarity with the candidates running for party chairmanship, 53 percent, 52 percent, and 50 percent of respondents said they knew Tanko Al-Makura, Abdullahi Adamu, and George Akume, respectively.” Furthermore, 45 percent said they know Senator Sani Musa, while 39 percent said the same about Mustapha Salihu.

“In addition, the poll sought citizens’ opinions on which aspirant they believe has the leadership capacity, character, and integrity to lead the APC. Senator George Akume came out on top with 32 percent as the candidate with the leadership capacity, character, and integrity to lead the party, according to the findings.

“Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura came in second with 23% and Senator Abdullahi Adamu came in third with 17%. Senator Sani Musa has 8% of the vote, while Mustapha Salihu has 6%, according to the report.
