Survivors of the Tuesday night attack on the convoy of Kebbi State Deputy Governor Colonel Samaila Dabai said 19 security operatives died in the two-hour gun battle at Kanya village.
Bandits loyal to Bello Turji are said to be hiding in Kebbi State, northwest Nigeria.
Kanya, in Kebbi State, is 275km from Kebbi.

The incident occurred just 48 hours after bandits attacked a local vigilante group, killing 63 people in Kebbi State’s Zuru Emirate.
This influenced the Deputy Governor’s Tuesday visits.
“We were ambushed at Kanya,” said Abdullahi Musa, Deputy Governor of Kebbi State.
“It was a fight. I’ve never seen anything like it. You know the deputy governor is a retired soldier with military skills. This happened during the shoot.
“We were able to take cover, along with 36 top military officers in the convoy,” Abdullahi said.
“The Tuesday night attack was bloody,” said Idris Ahmed, another survivor.

He said they were lucky to live another day because many died.
“There were many bandits. Holding a well-equipped military for two hours meant they were ready to fight.
Our soldiers fought bravely. My respect for them. Were the soldiers not there to save the situation, the story would be different,” Idris said.
