The New Nigeria People’s Party has been adopted by a political movement led by Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State, in order to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections.

Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi of Kaduna State, former Minister of Youths and Sports Development Solomon Dalung, popular Northern critic Buba Galadima, and other prominent Nigerians were among those in his team.

The NNPP was one of 18 political parties registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, according to reports.

The announcement was made by John Ifeimeje, the Interim National Chairman of the NNPP Caretaker Committee, during a press conference held after a marathon meeting in Abuja that lasted over five hours.

According to him, the movement decided to adopt the NNPP in order to save the country from the APC’s bad governance.

He said the movement had received an overwhelming response from across the country since its launch last month, adding that a large number of individuals and groups had come to the TNM national secretariat to identify with and join the movement.

“Let me use this opportunity to present to the good people of Nigeria that, in pursuit of the TNM’s objectives, we have resolved and agreed to fuse ourselves to, and adopt a political platform in order to further our struggle to rescue our country from maladministration and nepotism, incompetence and impunity, insecurity and corruption, poverty and squalor, hopelessness and despondency,” Ifeimeje said.

“As a result, the TNM and the NNPP have merged.” Because of the overwhelming similarity between the party and the TNM in terms of their aims and objectives, mission and vision, core values and core beliefs, as well as the shared patriotic tendencies of the leaders and members of both the NNPP and the TNM, members of the TNM have adopted and agreed to join the NNPP.”

TNM has already been completed, he added, with the fusion of the two platforms, and the party has already appointed caretaker committees at the state and national levels ahead of its conventions.

Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Chairman; Board of Trustees; Deputy Chairman, Hunkuyi; and Oladipo Olayoku, National Secretary, are members of the party’s national caretaker committee.

He explained that the committee’s job is to organize congresses and conventions in order to elect substantive executives.

According to Ifeimeje, the party has set March 30, 2022 as the date for its national convention.
