According to an independent Russian-based protest monitor, more than 2,500 people have been detained in 49 cities across Russia during protests against President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

On Sunday, the OVD-Info protest monitoring group reported that arrests had taken place in cities such as Vladivostok, a Pacific port city, and Irkutsk, a Siberian city. Activists from the opposition shared videos of protests in other cities.
Although it was impossible to independently verify the information, several social media posts on Sunday purportedly showed protests in various parts of Russia.
Russian authorities made no immediate comment, but the interior ministry had warned on Saturday that any attempt to hold unauthorised protests would be prevented, and the organizers would be held accountable.

According to OVD-Info, at least 2,502 people were arrested on Sunday, bringing the total number of people detained in anti-war protests to more than 10,000 since the invasion began on February 24.
