Five soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash in eastern Romania, near the Black Sea.
“All five members of the IAR 330 crew lost their lives,” said Gen Constantin Spanu, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, confirming the crash.
A search and rescue operation for the MiG 21 LanceR pilot is still underway, according to Gen. Spanu.

On Wednesday, an IAR 330-Puma helicopter crashed in the Gura Dobrogei area, about 11 kilometers (seven miles) from the airfield.
Soldiers were killed while searching for a fighter jet that had lost contact with the control tower and had vanished from radar.
The pilot had complained about bad weather before the crash, according to Spanu, and had been told to return to base.
“It’s too early to speculate on possible causes.” There are certainly unfavorable weather conditions, but we are unable to comment at this time.
“We’ve established two commissions of inquiry.” He stated, “Our focus is on the search-and-rescue operation.”
