The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has requested financial assistance from the Osun State Government for his wedding.
This was stated in a letter received by a state correspondent on Friday.
According to reports, the monarch is planning to marry a princess from Kano’s Ado Bayero clan.

Oba Akanbi revealed that the entire sought payment was N20 million in a letter dated February 8, 2022 and written to the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, with the reference number HIM/TELU 1/14.
“I have been instructed by His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, to notify you of the Oluwo’s desire to marry a princess from Kano Emirate, to be precise the Ado Bayero family,” the letter said in part.
“I wish to remind Your Excellency that this kind of royal wedding within two notable traditional institutions in Nigeria, will require huge expenses, which necessitates the support of state government financially even logistically.
“Moreover, the estimated amount for the event is above (N20,000,000:00) twenty million Naira.
“His Excellency, Oba Akanbi entrusts this request to you for study and acceptance.”
“I appreciate it.”

In a phone chat with, Alli Ibraheem, Oba Akanbi’s Chief Press Secretary, refuted the contents of the letter.
The letter was fraudulent, according to the Oluwo’s spokesperson, because it did not come from the Oluwo’s palace.
