Cult groups clash at Kwara University, resulting in two deaths, ten arrested

As alleged rival cultist groups from Kwara State University, Malete, clashed in a battle for supremacy, one person, identified as Ajibiye Ridwan, was killed.

According to reports, the bloody fight between cult groups in Malete’s Tarmac area saw the use of guns and other weapons, sending the students community into a panic.

The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital’s morgue, while seven suspects have been arrested, according to the police.

Meanwhile, Ajayi Okasanmi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), has confirmed the death of an unidentified young man who was discovered in a pool of his own blood.

The man was shot by suspected cultists along Taiwo Road, Ilorin on Saturday.

He said three suspects were arrested over the incident, adding that one motorcycle and a tricycle used by the suspected cultists were also recovered.

“The Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, has ordered a discreet investigation into the case as well as other cult-related cases in the state,” he said.
