Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), an outlawed Igbo separatist group, claims to have imposed an indefinite ban on the consumption of beef from ‘Fulani cattle’ in the South-East.

According to IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the ban will take effect on April 1 and will be “closely monitored to avoid any breach,” according to a statement made available to Ripples Nigeria on Monday.

From the slated date of the ban, only native cows will be allowed in the region, according to the statement.

The following is a quote from the IPOB statement:

“Effective April 1, 2022, Fulani cows will no longer be used in Biafraland for any social or ceremonial events or festivals.”

“Instead, our native cows will be used for these events.”

“The clergy and town unions, as traditional custodians of our culture, must ensure that this message reaches the grassroots.”

The group also warned its members and residents of the Southeast about the dangers of breaking command chains.
