This was revealed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Josephine Adeh, on Wednesday.
“The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Sunday Babaji, psc, has ordered the arrest and investigation of all officers involved in the viral extortion video.”
“Following the foregoing, officers on traffic duty along Area 11, where a young man whose identity has yet to be determined was intercepted and extorted, have been taken into custody and are currently being investigated to determine the facts surrounding the incident.”
According to the statement, Babaji described the officers’ behavior as “discreditable conduct, an act unbecoming of police officers,” and promised that the erring officers would face disciplinary action.
Residents of the FCT with relevant information on the victim in the video are urged to provide his contact information to aid further investigations, according to the command.
“The Command wishes to appeal to anyone who knows how to contact the young man in the video to provide the Command with his contact information or to relay a message of invitation to the Command’s Public Relations Officer,” it stated

Adeh also urged residents of the FCT to file complaints with the Public Complaints Bureau about police misconduct.
“While reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to service in accordance with standard best practices,” it read, “the CP wishes to remind residents of the availability of the Public Complaints Bureau line: 0902 222 2352, a number specially created for members of the public to report any unprofessional conduct of Police officers while performing their duties.”
Earlier this week, a video of officers from the FCT Police Command extorting money from a commuter in Area 11, Abuja, went viral.
The victim was seen in the video withdrawing money from a GT Bank ATM in the area and handing it over to some police officers who were waiting by a police van parked across the street.
