Thugs armed with guns, cutlasses, and axes, among other weapons, barricaded the road and caused chaos. A gang of 50 hoodlums stormed Ile-Ife, Osun State, over a land dispute with the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
Thugs armed with guns, cutlasses, and axes, among other weapons, barricaded the road and caused chaos, according to the Daily Sun.
The land in question was allegedly owned by the OAU but had been encroached upon by some individuals.
For a long time, there has been a land dispute between OAU and the indigenous people of the ancient town.

In the past, some of the aggrieved parties have invaded the university on several occasions, claiming ownership of some portions of the university’s land.
Some indigenous peoples who claimed their land was taken for the university when it was founded in 1962 were selling some of it.
Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice-Chancellor of the OAU, petitioned the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Abiodun Ige, in 2019 to have the perpetrators of the crime arrested.
The Vice-Chancellor had also copied Brown Ekwoaba, the Director of the Department of State Services in Osun State, emphasizing that the university would not engage in any illegal activity in this regard.
