The state government of Sokoto has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Qatar on education, health, and agriculture development.

This comes as Qatar signed another Memorandum of Understanding with the late Sultan Maccido family and Future Leaders, a Qatar Charity-accredited NGO, on the management of AWQAF (donated assets) projects in the state and the country as a whole.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Qatari Ambassador to Nigeria Dr Ali Ghanem al-Hijr took turns signing the first agreement, indicating their willingness to pursue their respective future plans.

The establishment of the Nana Asma’u (All Girls) University under the auspices of the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Foundation, provision of equipment/personnel for the soon-to-be-completed 1200-bed Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital, and assistance for orphans, particularly in the area of education, are among the areas of anticipated collaborations, according to Governor Tambuwal.

While praising Qatar’s cooperation, the governor stated that “there is no greater investment than the development of human potentials.” Allah promises that if you are kind to his creatures, He will be kind to you.”
According to the second agreement, the Maccido family will give the Qatar Charity a six-hectare plot of land in Sokoto metropolis for the construction of an AWQAF school, clinic, hostels, boreholes, bakery, and mosque “for the welfare of orphans in Sokoto state and Nigeria at large,” explains Mallam Muhammad Lawan Maidoki, Chairman of the Sokoto state Zakkat and Waqf Commission.
