MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, and Mafab Communications Ltd have qualified as approved bidders in the upcoming 3.5 gigahertz spectrum auction for the implementation of fifth-generation (5G) networks in Nigeria, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission.

This comes nine days before a mock auction of lots in the 3.5 gigahertz (Ghz) spectrum set aside for technology implementation in the country.

While the mock sale is set for December 10, the final auction is set for December 13 in Abuja, according to the NCC’s Information Memorandum (IM).

The commission stated in a statement that qualifying bidders have also met the Intention to Bid Deposit requirements outlined in the Information Memorandum, particularly Sections 1 (e), VII I (ii), (v) (3) (c) and XI (e), which the commission has previously highlighted.

Despite widespread concern over the Omicron coronavirus type, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, stated that the auction will take place as planned.
