Chiemeka Arinze, a co-defendant with alleged billionaire kidnap kingpin Chukwudi Dumee Onuamadike, aka Evans, died in Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre.
Evans is on trial with Joseph Emeka, Arinze, and Udeme Upong before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos for the attempted kidnapping of Chief Vincent Obianodo, the Chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors.
They face a seven-count charge of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, and firearms sale and transfer.
Last Friday, we learned that Arinze had passed away.
Evans, who was apprehended in June 2017, was described by Nigerian security forces as a “very smart, crafty, and intelligent kidnapper” who had eluded capture for four years despite being on three states’ most wanted lists (Lagos State, Edo State, and Anambra State).
