Six political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, have boycotted the December 4 Ekiti local government election, leaving only six political parties to compete.

This was revealed to journalists in Ado-Ekiti by Jide Aladejana, the chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).

Mr. Aladejana promised that the election would be free, fair, and trustworthy.

He stated that no politician would be permitted to hijack and manipulate the election results.

“Let me take this opportunity to reassure the electorate that the commission will conduct a free, fair, and credible election that will satisfy the wishes of all participating parties in the state,” he said.

Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), National Reduce Movement (NRM), and Young Progressives Party are among the political parties contesting the election, according to him (YPP).

He went on to say that the election would take place in 2,195 polling units across 16 statutory local government areas and 19 local council development areas.

“We will ensure that the election is free, fair, and credible.” This is our goal, and nothing will be able to stop us. We will not allow anyone to tamper with the system. “By monitoring the process and ensuring that the people’s votes count, we will be as transparent as possible,” he said.

To avoid manipulations, the SIEC chairman stated that sensitive election materials would be made public on the eve of the election.

He went on to say that the main opposition party’s plan to boycott the election would not taint the process.

“We’re all part of the electoral process; the only difference is that political parties have to sponsor candidates.” We have everything we need for the election. “In the 16 LGAs and 19 LCDAs, we’ve trained our ad hoc staff and electoral officers,” the official said. “We’ll work with security agencies to warn anyone who might try to sabotage the election process.”

PDP spokesman in Ekiti Raphael Adeyanju said the party did not trust INEC to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.

He stated that the party’s decision had been approved by the national secretariat.
