ITF World Tennis Tour: Israel’s Cohen defeats Nigeria’s Mary Udoffa, qualifies for singles finals

Romi Cohen of Israel qualified for the singles finals of the ongoing J5 World Tennis Championship in Abuja by defeating Mary Udoffa of Nigeria 6-0, 2-0 on Saturday.

In the female doubles category, Cohen teamed up with Marylove Edwards of Nigeria to beat Egypt’s Joody Elkady and Nigeria’s Josephine Yakubu 6-2, 6-2 in the championship, which ends on Sunday.

Cohen expressed her delight at the two victories to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).

“Today was one of my best days; my performance was excellent, and I worked and fought hard to earn my victories.”

“In the doubles category, it was a tough match and a good match pairing with Marylove Edwards. We left a huge impression. We were victorious over our opponents. We set out to win the tournament finals, and we succeeded. We are content.

“We defeated Egypt’s Joody Elkady and Nigeria’s Yakubu with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Our sets were well-calculated.

“In singles and doubles, I did a good calculation job, and we actually got our sets.”

“For tomorrow’s final match against Marylove in the singles category, I’ll work hard on my tactics so that I can win again and lift the trophy,” she said.

On Sunday, Edwards of Nigeria will face Romi Cohen of Israel in the singles final, while Mary Udoffa of Nigeria will face Ibifuro Clement of the United States in the third place match.

Mukhtar Andu of the United Kingdom advanced to the finals of the male singles category by defeating Musa Sani of Nigeria, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

Michael Emmanuel of Nigeria advanced to the finals by defeating Desmond Ayaaba of Ghana 6-3,6-2.

On Sunday, Andu will face Emmanuel in the championship game, while Musa Sani will face Desmond Ayaaba in the third-place match.

Desmond Ayaaba of Ghana and Suileman Ibrahim of Nigeria defeated Andu and Musa Sani of Nigeria, 6-0, 6-7, 10-3, to advance to the finals of the male doubles category.

The tournament features 41 players from Nigeria, Germany, the United States, Sweden, Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Israel.

The J5 ITF World Tennis Tour began on November 15 and will conclude on November 21.
